Vor 50 Jahren begann Porsche mit der Entwicklung des 911 Carrera RS 2.7 und baute zunächst 500 Exemplare, um das Auto für die Gruppe 4, Spezial-GT-Fahrzeuge, zu homologieren. Der Porsche 911 Carrera RS 2.7 wurde 1972 auf dem Salon de lAutomobile (Pariser Autosalon) vorgestellt und war sofort ein Erfolg. Bereits wenige Wochen nach der Messe waren alle 500 Fahrzeuge verkauft. In ähnlicher Weise ist der Puma Suede ein symbolträchtiges Stück Puma-Geschichte – ursprünglich gab es nur 307 Paar, um die Startnummer des Leichtathletik-Olympiasiegers Tommie Smith zu feiern.

Der 911 Carrera RS 2.7 wurde zu einem Fahrzeug mit Straßenzulassung für Kunden, die auch an Rennsportveranstaltungen teilnehmen wollten. Er war der erste 911, der den Beinamen "Carrera" erhielt – als Krönung des Porsche-Programms. Der Namenszusatz ist eine Anspielung auf den Erfolg von Porsche beim klassischen Straßenrennen Carrera Panamericana im Jahr 1954. Während das "RS" deutlich macht, dass das Fahrzeug für den Renn- und Rallyesport konzipiert wurde, steht das "2.7" für den Hubraum des Motors. Der RS 2.7 mit seiner spartanischen Ausstattung war von Anfang an auf Schnelligkeit ausgelegt – eine nahtlose Verbindung von Stil und Leistung. Das markanteste Merkmal des schnellsten deutschen Serienautos seiner Zeit (Höchstgeschwindigkeit 245 km/h) ist der Heckspoiler, vom Volksmund "Entenbürzel" getauft.

Diesem Erbe erweist Puma nun mit der Veröffentlichung einer auf 500 Paar (pro Farbvariante) limitierten Schuhkollektion eine stolze Reverenz. Der zeitlose Puma Suede wird jetzt Teil der Puma x Porsche Linie. Der Puma x Porsche Suede RS 2.7 Limited Edition trägt den ikonischen RS 2.7 Schriftzug, ist auf Geschwindigkeit ausgelegt und streng limitiert – genau wie der originale Porsche 911 Carrera RS 2.7 selbst – und ist damit die ultimative „Schuh-Würdigung“ für diese Automobilikone. Der Sneaker ist in zehn verschiedenen Farbvarianten erhältlich, aus denen Kunden des Porsche 911 Carrera RS 2.7 damals wählen konnten. Zwei der Farbvarianten – Orange/Schwarz und Grand Prix Weiß/Schwarz – sind exklusiv in den Niederlanden bzw. in Japan erhältlich.
